Upcountry is the literary magazine of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, publishing the poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art of current students and alumni.

The faculty editor of Upcountry is Dr. Melissa Crowe, and the student editors for the 2011-2012 school year are Barat Qualey and Mika Quellette.

To provide students and alumni a venue for sharing their finest writing and visual art, and to provide the community (heck, the world!) a glimpse at the work UMPI students are producing, during and after their college years.

Upcountry awards a cash prize each year to the best poem, prose piece, and visual image published in that year’s Fall and Spring issues.
